Music in my FACE

Every social networking site today seemed to be jam packed with screen shots of the new Tegan and Sara album, Heartthrob. It's been some time since these ladies put out anything new, five years to be precise, but I feel like this is the perfect time for a comeback especially for the sound they are producing. Upbeat, pop, and a little bit of dance combined with their retro style meshes perfectly with today's generation that seems to be re-introducing the styles of the 80's with their leggings, bright shirts, and teased out hair.

I remember the first time I heard Tegan and Sara. It was 2005 and I had just started my first job ever working as a sales associate at Forever 21. Whenever their track "Walking with a Ghost" came into play it was hard to resist the urge to dance and sing along, but soon I realized that was acceptable and found it to be a normal part of my work routine. Quickly, they became a go-to on my IPOD along with The Format ( now FUN), and Bright Eyes. Each track seemed to fit my morning mood as I trugged along to class through the sleet and snow, just in time for the song to end and class to being. Interesting- this was five years ago and here we are today being re-introduced to these powerful Twins. It's motivating to see their success and the hype they have received with this new album - Like they are being re-born into the world today and have conformed appropriately to the changing trends.

I guess you can look at life just like the music scene. Trends grow and fade, different styles are introduced and other artists build and expand off of one another. In life, or rather the work force, there are different career trends, certain jobs are "in demand" or "hot', while others fade, or due to technology there is an entirely new field created that WE must adjust to. New information is discovered, new training developed and new jobs are created. If you want to be successful you need to be able to adjust- roll with the punches, but still hold onto what makes you YOU. Again, take Tegan and Sara for example. They have put out a new album with a sound that is currently trending, but is still recognizable as their own with their folk-rock roots. In terms of their own personal style, they have both cut their hair into a short style that many girls today are rocking- the chick faux hawk as I'm calling it ( think of the latest Miley Cyrus style or if you remember that hit "Bulletproof' by La Roux- their hairstyles). Personally, I love it, but I definitely do not have the facial features to rock such a look.

So power to Tegan and Sara for this epic comeback and if your interested in hearing a few tracks from the new album they are currently available on Spotify and YouTube. For more information check out the album review by the LA Times .

As for how it relates to life- I know my last post was a big drab and negative- but truth is you just need to stay positive, work hard and no matter WHAT! STAY TRUE TO YOU. Its a rough world out there, your going to get knocked down, but don't loose yourself in the shuffle.
